Check, validate and serialize

The medicine industry realized a long time ago how important rigorous quality control, traceability and validation are. Additionally, product serialization was recently imposed by law. Each individual product packaging now requires a unique serial number. O course, all of these obligations make high demands on the production and packaging equipment. The Vistalink vision systems are an essential part in controlling the production process and running the necessary checks. One of these is Q-Code, a vertical total solution developed in-house.

Solution in the spotlight: Q-Code

VistaLink developed Q-Code as a validated standard solution that can be customized and optimized to meet specific requirements. This vertical solution has been successfully implemented worldwide for different pharmaceutical multinationals. How does it work? The medication manufacturer’s own ERP software generates the necessary serial data for the packaging. VistaLink temporarily processes these in its ProTrack Database, which is connected to the Line Director.

The Line Director controls the equipment (e.g. printers and checkweighers) at actual production speeds. Using vision technology based on OCV/OCR (Optical Character Verification/Optical Character Recognition), the Q-Code not only verifies whether the data mentioned on the packaging is correct, but also checks the printing quality. In case of problems, the system immediately removes the incorrect packaging from the production line. The control system subsequently reports to the ERP software.
